VEGASMAMAS™ Mama's Day Poem
NOTES ON THIS 2017 MAMA'S DAY POEM:
I was inspired to write this poem upon rising today, the morning of MAMA'S DAY 2017; all while my children were Sunday-screaming in the background and listening to the "Frida" soundtrack (especially songs by Lila Downs, Trio Mamimbero's "Viva la Vida" & Chavela Vargas).
I wrote this for my beautiful fellow VEGASMAMAS™ & beyond. Our blessed job might be exhausting but it certainly is REWARDING.
before kids: I'm going to sleep until 9am on a Sunday.
after kids: wait, it's 9am on a Sunday? But it feels like 12noon.
Yesterday, at our preschool, the pre-k children sang "You Are So Beautiful" by Joe Cocker. My 4-year old wasn't even performing but I shed many a tear sitting with my girl Jennifer; in fact, I don't think there was a dry eye in the house! Later, a wonderful couple performed "Wind Beneath My Wings" as we dined on brunch and the hero status stuck in my soul, I meditated how we ARE our children's heroes, hence the reference in this poem. The Mother's Day Brunch Committee put on such a thoughtfully curated, beautifully rendered & magically sweet experience for all of us preschool VEGASMAMAS™. Thanks to my girl Jen B for helping me through the poker verbage, I know I took artistic license on that line! Jackie, this "perilous midnight temperatures" is for you and hope AM fever is subsiding. Pillow crasher is for my sister, schedule smasher is for me for obvious reasons...but the poem in its entirety is for all you VEGASMAMAS™. You are validated. You are seen. You are appreciated. We love you.
